Frequently Asked Questions

I don't ride or have my own horse, can I still try horseback archery?

Yes! Horseback archery is much more than shooting from the back of a horse, it is a style of archery. Some archers may be unable to ride or not interested in riding, instead interested in using the style of shooting for the ground. Horseback archery combines movement, speed and precision together which can all be put into practice on the ground.

I'm not sure how my horse will react to the bow, how can I get started?

All horses are different, but any training is always done at a pace to keep both horse and rider comfortable. When first starting out the first session will always be a ground session to teach you how to shoot first, then we can see how your horse reacts to the equipment and plan further training with them in mind.

I have an injury or disability which may affect my ability to shoot, can I still try it?

Archery is very adaptable and there are lots of aids which may help you to shoot, the best thing to do is to get in touch and we can work together to see if we can make it possible for you.

How old do you have to be to start archery?

I usually reccomend children being at least 6 years old before starting, and ensuring they are good at following instructions to keep everyone safe. There is some flexibility with this and young children will usually start with soft archery, to discuss please get in touch.

Do I need to have a venue for horseback archery?

Horseback archery can be done in a field or an arena, whether a location is suitable depends on what is in the arena and it's surroundings. The best way to check suitability is to send us some pictures then we can assess it, but always ensure you have the owners permission first and that they would be happy for archery to take place.

For those without horses, arenas in your area which can be hired may be suitable for ground archery as well. Indoor arenas tend to be more suitable than outdoor arenas but can vary by location, always ensure the owners would be happy with the venue being used for archery before hiring. If you're not sure of venues in your area please get in touch and we will see if we can help.
